OGUNLEYE TO RETURN TO INDIANA
Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana University defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 1997 and a second-team pick in 1998, today announced that he will return to IU for his senior season. In doing so, he will not declare himself eligible for the National Football League selection process.
"This wasn't an easy decision but I am really excited about the choice that I have made," said Ogunleye. "Returning to school gives me an opportunity to get a jump-start on my graduate education and it also allows me to improve my learning curve on the football field. I'm also very encouraged about this upcoming season because we should have 18 returning starters in 1999. This football program is on the verge of doing some great things and I really want to be an important part of its success."
Ogunleye, Indiana University's career leader in sacks (26.5) and tackles for loss (53), was recently listed by ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper as the 30th-best prospect in the 1999 draft (includes underclassmen).
A 6-foot-5, 260-pound, product of Staten Island, N.Y., Ogunleye will graduate in May and will be enrolled in graduate school during the 1999 campaign.
