HOOSIERS UNDEFEATED IN INDIANA INVITATIONAL
Hoosiers finish 4-0-1 in first ever varsity tournament
Bloomington, Ind.- The Indiana women's water polo team began their first season as a varsity sport with a bang by finishing 4-0-1 in their first tournament tournament of the season, the Indiana Invitational. After going 2-0-1 in the first day of match play, the Hoosiers continued their winning ways by defeating Michigan State 12-0 and Miami of Ohio 13-3 to close out the two day tournament.
The Hoosiers received a total team effort in their match against the Spartans of Michigan State as eight Hoosiers contributed at least one goal, with four of those eight scoring twice. Freshmen Kelly McKay and Sheri Fagley contributed two goals as did sophomore Deb Simone and graduate student Amy Pankoke. In the Hoosiers final game of the tournament against Miami of Ohio, freshmen Kristin Carpenter led the scoring attack with three goals followed by fellow Hoosiers sophomore Megan Morgan, Fagley, and Simone with two goals a piece. The Hoosiers finished the tournament tied with the best overall record with the University of Michigan at 4-0-1.
The Hoosiers will have the next couple of weeks off as they prepare to head to the Princeton
Invitational, considered to be one of their bigger tournaments of the season. The Princeton
Invitational will take place during the weekend of February 28th through March 1st.
