Hoosiers sweep doubles to go a perfect 9-0 in Invite
Blacksburg, VA--Indiana continued its strong play on Sunday, taking six matches to close out the annual Virgiana Tech Invitational. Only one Hoosier lost today, as Indiana closed out the tournament with a perfect 9-0 doubles mark and a 12-5 singles record.
Correne Stout again led the way for the Hoosiers en-route to her 13th consecutive victory Stout defeated Virgina Tech's Michele Marataus, 6-2,6-4, to keep her record unblemished this season. Freshman Kelly Blanch also won her fifth straight since joining the team in January. She defeated Jen Margopulos,6-1,6-3, at number five singles. Sophomore Jessica Anderson collected a hard-fought 7-5,7-6(5), victory over Virgina Tech's Katherine Chen at number two, while senior Christy Sharp cruisedto an easy 6-1,6-0 decision at number four.
In doubles, Indiana took all three of its matches to finish the tournament a perfect 9-0. Blanch and Stout highlighted the day for the Hoosiers, winning an easy 8-2 decision at number two doubles. Blanch and Stout once again combined for the number one victory, knocking off South Carolina's top team, 8-6.
The Hoosiers will head home for a week of practice before going back on
the road for an afternoon affair with Clemson on Saturday. Match time is
slated for 2:00 p.m.
