Hoosiers open Big Ten play with big win
Bloomington, IN--Well over 300 fans were in attendance as the Hoosiers opened the Big Ten season against Ohio State. The fanfare paid off as Indiana pulled out a 4-3 victory in the annual "Dinner With Doubles" contest.
The Hoosiers opened the match on the right track, taking two of three doubles matches from the Buckeyes. Derek Pope and Gabriel Montilla captured an 8-5 decision at the top spot while Scott Lippitt and Andrew Held also won at number two, 8-6.
In singles action, Pope was a 6-4,6-2 winner over Scott Wiles at the number one spot and George McGill took an easy 6-3,6-1 decision at number 4. McGill was seeing his first action in quite some time after battling injuries for much of the semester.
The Hoosiers clinched the 4-3 victory when freshman Ian Arons, playing at the number 6 position, breezed by Bob Wellstein, 6-0,6-0, to seal the win for Indiana.
Indiana is now 1-0 in both overall and league play with the victory. The Hoosiers will be back in action this Tuesday when the Ball State Cardinals come calling.
