Hoosiers breeze by Ball State
Bloomington, IN--Indiana improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating regional opponent Ball State on Tuesday night. The Hoosiers took 5 of 6 singles matches and 2 of 3 doubles contests as they won rather easily, 6-1.
The Hoosiers lone singles loss was at the number one position where Derek Pope lost a 6-4,6-4 decision to Bryan Smith. Smith came into the contest ranked 26th in the nation and 2nd in the nation. The Hoosiers got strong play from Gabriel Montilla and Scott Lippitt once again. Montilla topped Ball States number two player Ryan Baxter, 6-3,6-4 while Lippitt won at the number three slot, 6-4,6-2.
In doubles, the Hoosiers took the top two spots before falling in the 3rd match. Pope and Montilla combined to defeat the 41st nationally ranked team of Smith and Patrick Vizzone, 8-6. The number two doubles team of Andrew Held andScott Lippit also won, defeating Baxter and Kevin Donovan, 8-6.
The Hoosiers return to action this weekend as they face Murray State and Northern Illinois this Saturday.
