Lady Hoosiers drop close match to Clemson
Stout/Blanch remain perfect in singles play
Bloomington, IN--Indiana travelled to Clemson, South Carolina, in hopes of improving to a perfect 3-0 to begin the 1998 dual match season. The Tigers, however, had other intentions, slipping by the Hoosiers 5-4.
Senior Correne Stout continued her tear, defeating Estressia Kruger, 6-4,1-6,7-5, at number one singles. The victory upped her record to a perfect 13-0 in match play. Stout also picked up a victory at number one doubles, teaming up with freshman Kelly Blanch to defeat Clemson top duo, 8-1. Blanch, remained undefeated in both doubles and singles since joining the team. She defeated Shir Now, 6-3,6-3, to improve to a perfect 6-0 in both singles and doubles.
Senior Megan McCarney and sophomore Zahra Ahamed were the only other Hoosiers to claim victory, as they defeated Clemson's number two doubles squad of Kruger and Catherine Galvin in a hard-fought 9-8 decision.
Indiana's record now stands at 2-1 on the season. The Hoosiers will head home for a week of practice before taking on Auburn at home next Saturday. Indiana will then turn around and host Tennessee on Sunday. Both matches are slated for 10:00 a.m. starts.
