HOOSIERS UPSET NO. 9 SLIPPERY ROCK
IU closes out Princeton Invite with 3-1 record
Princeton N.J.- The No. 15 ranked Indiana (7-1-1) upset No. 9 University of Slippery Rock 9-6 and defeated the Villanova 15-5 to close out the Princeton Invitational. The Hoosiers compiled a 3-1 record over the course of the weekend defeating No. 20 Princeton 11-5 on Friday while falling 8-7 in sudden death to No. 12 Maryland.
Freshman Meredith Cravens led the Hoosiers in their upset victory of Slippery Rock with three goals. Graduate student Amy Pankoke and freshman Shari Fagley each chipped in two goals. Fagley also led the Hoosiers with four steals and Pankoke added three. Senior goalie Kate Toole had fifteen saves and four steals. Two of her saves came on penalty shots.
In the Hoosiers final game of the Princeton Invitational, sophomore Deb Simone and freshman Kelly McKay led the scoring attack with three goals a piece. Junior Nancy Miller, Cravens and Fagley each added two goals. Toole accumulated ten saves as the Hoosiers' goalie.
The Hoosiers next match is set for March 17th as they travel to the University of Redlands and Loyola Marymount. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
