Hoosier Water Polo Splits pair at Claremont Invitational
Claremont, CA--Indiana's water polo sqaud competed in a pair of high scoring affairs today, falling short in the first contest, but squeezing out a sudden death overtime thriller in the second. The split moves the Hoosiers overall mark to 9-2-1 on the season.
In the morning session of the Claremont Invitational the Hoosiers dropped a 9-4 decision to the Trojans of USC. Deb Simone led the scoring attack for Indiana, tallying 2 goals. Megan Morgan and Kristen Carpenter both added a goal each and Kate Toole registered 13 saves in the losing cause.
Game two, however, would bring different results for the Hoosiers. Indiana squeezed out a 10-9 victory in sudden death overtime against the host school, Claremont Mudd-Scripps. Amy Pankoke led the Hoosier explosion with 3 goals while Carpenter and Simone both added two scores a piece. Simone also contributed 6 steals while Toole registered an impressive 24 saves.
The Hoosiers are back in action tomorrow as they play for 5th place in the
Claremont Invitational.
