Indiana Water Polo wins two
Long Beach, CA--Coach Barry King and his women's water polo squad continued to dominate today, winning a pair of matches with relative ease. The Hoosiers defeated Washington 8-2 in the morning and then turned around and defeated Pomona 9-3 in the second round of the Claremont Invitational.
In the morning competition, Amy Pankoke led the way for the Hoosiers with four goals. Megan Morgan, Sheri Fagley, Kara Fellerhoff, and Kristin Carpenter all added a goal each for the Hoosiers who swam past the Washington defense all morning long. Fellerhoff and Debra Simone each added contributed five assists and goalie Kate Toole tallied 11 saves.
Indiana enjoyed much of the same success in the second match of the day, breezing past Ponoma. Fatigue apparently wasn't a factor for the Hoosiers as they poured the offense on once again, outscoring the opponent 9-3. Fagley led the way for Indiana with five goals and Carpenter, Morgan, and Kelly McKay all added a goal a piece in the rout. Toole tallied another 11 saves in the afternoon contest and also contributed three assists.
The Hoosiers are back in action tomorrow morning as their quest for a
Claremont Invitational championship continues. Indiana will face USC at
10:00 a.m., California time, and will play at 6:00 if they win the morning
contest.
Go back to the top.
