BUSY WEEK AHEAD FOR INDIANA FOOTBALL
BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- The Indiana University football team will begin spring practice on Saturday, March 28, at the grass practice fields adjacent to Memorial Stadium. If there are adverse weather conditions, the practice will be held at the Mellencamp Pavilion. The exact time will be announced later this week. The second practice will be held on Sunday, March 29, in the afternoon (time to be announced.) Practice is open to the public.
"We need to create a much greater sense of urgency this spring in everything that we do," said head coach Cameron. "I think urgency covers a variety of things. What is the offense trying to do to our defense? What problems does the defense create for our offense? We've got to have more urgency to make adjustments more quickly. We have to create problems for one another this spring so we are forced to adapt."
"With that urgency we've got to get back, like most teams, to some base fundamentals. As we went back and reviewed all of our tape from this past year, the area where we can make the most improvement is in the base fundamentals and techniques for each position. It sounds simple, it is simple, in theory, but for young players it is very difficult to do."
Indiana returns 13 starters from last year's squad but only four players on the 1998 roster will be in their final year of eligibility, thus making the Hoosiers one of the youngest teams in the country. The group is led by junior defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, a first-team all-Big Ten selection in 1997, and senior co-captain Chris Gall, who caught 54 passes from his fullback position last year.
On Tuesday, March 24, the football program will be holding the first annual "Women's Football Clinic" which will be held at the Indiana University football complex beginning at 7:00 p.m. The clinic will afford the women of the Bloomington community an opportunity to learn more about the game of football. For more information contact Sandi Brough at (812) 855-9618. Registration for the clinic will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
On Thursday, March 26, over 30 members of the Indiana Football program
will assist Habitat for Humanity by helping to build a house for a needy
family in the Bloomington area. For further information (directions,
times) contact Todd Starowitz at (812) 855-9610.
