CHAD SMITH NAMED BIG TEN PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Bloomington, Ind.-- Junior Chad Smith was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Monday for his performance against Michigan State Saturday. Smith pitched his sixth consecutve complete game against the Spartans, a four-hit shutout.

In the 2-0 Hoosier victory, Smith outdueled the top left-handed pitching prospect in the nation, MSU's Mark Mulder. Smith struck out five batters while walking just two to improve his record to 5-2.

In his last six starts, all of which he has completed, Smith has a 2.74 E.R.A. with 40 strikeouts and just 15 walks. The last time he had to be pulled from a game was February 21.
