HOOSIERS BACK ON TRACK WITH WIN OVER PENN STATE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's tennis team put an end to a five match losing streak today with a 5-2 victory over Penn State. The Hoosiers are now 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten.
At No. 1 singles, senior Derek Pope dropped the opening set, but recovered in time for a 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Penn State's Mike Griesser. Pope is now 7-13 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
The squad also rolled off victories by Gabe Montilla, Scott Lippitt, and George McGill at No. 2, 3, and 4 singles, respectively. The overall match was well-contested all day as four of the six singles matches went to a deciding third set.
During doubles play, Indiana secured the point with victories at both No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Derek Pope and Gabe Montilla ran their conference record to 4-4 with a tight 8-6 victory over Colin Smeeton and Marc Dorfman. The team of George McGill and Scott Lippitt were victorious 8-4, but Brenden Storey and Ricardo Jordan fell by the same score.
The Hoosiers will host Notre Dame at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
