WOMEN GOLFERS SECURE SIXTH TOURNEY WIN
Three Hoosiers Just Miss Medalist Honors
IOWA CITY, Ia. - In its final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships, the Indiana women's golf team sent a serious message to the rest of the conference. With its sixth win of the season and second win in as many tries against predominantly conference foes, the IU squad has let the rest of the Big Ten know exactly what it is capable of doing at the championships, May 1-3, at Penn State.
Indiana, behind rounds of 299, 299, and a 304 today, easily took the Hawkeye Invitational by 17 strokes. Jenny Gray finished in second place overall, just one shot behind the tournament medalist, Colleen Cashman. Right on their tails were four golfers that tied for third, including IU's Erin Carney and Jennifer Seger.
The Hoosiers have now placed three golfers in the top five on three different occasions - Spartan Fall Invitational, Indiana Invitational, and Hawkeye Invitational. All three of those tournaments featured mainly Big Ten competition.
