HOOSIERS ROLL TO INVITATIONAL VICTORY Seger Notches First Career Title
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Heading into the Indiana Invitational, the Indiana women's golf team had two key priorities - to defend its home course, and to prove to the rest of the conference that it would be a force to be reckon with when the Big Ten Championships roll around May 1-3. Behind a dominating 29-stroke victory, the Hoosiers did both.
Indiana's three rounds of 299, 306, and 301 were lower than any other team score carded over the course. IU was led by Jennifer Seger who followed up a then-career best round of 71 on Saturday with a 70 in today's finale. Seger's three-round total of 221 was strong enough to give her a five-stroke victory, her first career medalist performance.
Erin Carney also finished strong, posting a one-over 75 today, placing her in a tie for second with Purdue's Stacey Orschell. Michelle Hatfield, who was the leader after the first two rounds, finished in fourth with a 229. Jenny Gray's tie for seventh gives the Hoosiers four top 10 finishers, marking the third time the squad has accomplished that feat this season.
Indiana will next travel to Athens, Georgia, April 10-12, for the Liz Murphy.
