HOOSIERS HOPE FOR THREE IN A ROW IN GEORGIA
The Indiana women's golf team travels to Athens, Georgia, April 10-12, for the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic.
Tournament Data: The Liz Murphy will be played over the University of Georgia Golf Course, a par-73 that spans 6,114 yards. The Classic will consist of 54 holes, with 18 to be played on each day. The 1997 team title was won by Georgia (907) and the individual champion was Georgia's Shauna Estes (216).
The Field: (17) Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Furman, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana State, Memphis, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, South Carolina, Southern Illinois, Southern Methodist, Texas.
The Hoosiers: Indiana will be represented at the Liz Murphy by Seniors Jenny Gray and Erin Carney, Juniors Michelle Hatfield and Jennifer Seger, and sophomore Sami Montgomery.
A Look Back: The Hoosiers protected their home course last weekend with a dominating 29-stroke victory at the Indiana Invitational. Indiana was led by Jennifer Seger who captured her first-ever tournament title with a total of 221, carding career-low rounds of 71 and 70 in the process. IU also placed four golfers in the top 10, marking the third time this season the squad has achieved that feat.
National Powers: According to Golfstat's statistical rankings, the Hoosiers are currently sixth in the nation in par-4 scoring (4.34), seventh in greens in regulation (.602), and eighth in par-5 scoring (5.10).
Golden on the Greens: Erin Carney is currently first in the nation in hitting greens in regulation (.709). She is also seventh in par-4 scoring (4.19).
What's on Tap? Indiana will next travel to Iowa City, April 18-19, for the Hawkeye Invitational. Following the Hawkeye, the Hoosiers will head to the Big Ten Championships hosted by Penn State, May 1-3.
