ERIN CARNEY NAMED FIRST TEAM
ALL-AMERICAN
Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana golfer Erin Carney has been named a first team All American by the National Golf Coaches Association.
Carney, a junior from LaCrosse, Wisc., led the Hoosiers this season with a career best 74.7 stroke average. She was the Big Ten's Player of the Year and tied for the title at the league championship earlier this season to help Indiana win the conference championship.
She played in all 13 tournaments for the Hoosiers this season and finished in the top 10 ten times. Besides tying for the Big Ten title, she also won the Wolverine Invitational in the fall.
Carney also becomes only the second golfer in IU history to be named a first team All American. Current LPGA touring pro Ericka Wicoff earned first team honors in 1995 and 1996.
The team finished its season last week at the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisc., where they finished 13th.
