1998 Team Notes
The Hoosiers return eight starters from the team that won 23 consecutive games last season before losing in the national semifinals to UCLA 1-0. Six of the top seven scorers from last season return as does goalkeeper T.J. Hannig. Lazo Alavanja is a National Player of the Year Candidate and he will lead the midfield along with Yuri Lavrinenko. Dema Kovalenko and Aleksey Korol lead the frontline. Freshman All-American Nick Garcia returns with seniors Andrew Parrish and Gino DiGuardi to form a solid back line. Overall team speed and ball handling are positives. Hannig got better as the season went on in 1997 and should have another solid season. The loss of Klein and Porter in the midfield will hurt but the players to replace them have all played in the past.
