HOOSIERS DEFEAT LOUISVILLE IN EXHIBITION GAME
Indianapolis, Ind. ­­ Indiana's two Player of the Year candidates
Dema Kovalenko and Lazo Alavanja scored goals to lead the Hoosiers to a
2-0 victory over Louisville in the annual Golden Boot exhibition game.
Kovalenko got the Hoosiers on the board in the 11th minute as he put a shot
past Louisville's Jeremy Morales off a defleted shot by Ryan Mack.
Kovalenko then assisted on Alavanja's goal in the 61st minute. He caught
up to a long ball and feed Alavanja the ball at the top of the box from
the goal line and he drove it home from 16 yards out.
"We were out of rhythm in the first half after Nick (Garcia) came out,"
head coach Jerry Yeagley said. "There is no question we have the talent
but I have two concerns. I fear that the team might not want to do the little
things and second I want them playing and working well together."
The Hoosiers dominated the game from a statistical standpoint as they outshot
the Cardinals 18-4 and had an edge in cormer kicks at 3-1. Alavanja and
Mack led the team with four shots each.
