INDIANA DOMINATES ST. LOUIS
St. Louis, MO -- The Indiana University women's soccer team (4-0) weathered the rain and remained undefeated with a 1-0 victory at St. Louis (2-2) Sunday evening.
The shutout victory over the Billikens is the third straight for the Hoosiers. (IUPUI, 9-0; Wright State, 1-0; and St. Louis, 1-0).
Indiana junior back Emily Etzkorn, one of seven St. Louis natives on the IU team, scored just nine and a half minutes in off of a corner kick by junior forward Tracy Grose, also of St. Louis. Grose has scored in all four Hoosier contests.
"It was very meaningful to score the goal," said Etzkorn. "We had a lot of of family and friends at the game. It was almost like playing at home."
The Indiana defense dominated again, allowing only two shots and never really giving the Billikens a chance to put anything together offensively.
"We really dominated them," said IU coach Joe Kelley. "(Sophomore back Wendy) Graves, (freshman back Kelly) Cole, and (sophomore forward Jena) Kluska all did a great job defensively. St. Louis never really had a chance to score."
Next game: The Hoosiers start their Big Ten schedule at (16) Penn State Friday September 18 at 7 p.m.
Next home game: The Hoosiers host Big Ten foe Ohio State Sunday September 20 at 1:30 p.m.
