VOLLEYBALL HOOSIERS DEFEAT BUTLER
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team made its season home opening debut a victorious one Tuesday evening, defeating Butler 15-1, 15-10, 12-15, 15-3 in front of 826 fans at IU's University Gym.
With the win, the Hoosiers improve to 4-2 overall while Butler drops to 1-6.
Leading the way for Indiana was junior Ryann Connors who had a match-high 16 kills and nine digs. She was followed by senior Jen Magelssen who posted 13 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Amanda Welter added 11 kills and 10 digs while registering a .429 attack percentage.
As a team, the Hoosiers recorded 62 kills to the Bulldogs' 40 and posted a .241 attack percentage compared to Butler's .073.
"Butler has always been a traditionally tough team," said Coach Katie Weismiller. "They came out and were ready to play. I think that we came out in game one, clicking on all cylinders. In games two and three we changed the lineup and I think that we had some communication problems."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 18-19,
hosting the Ameritech Cellular and Paging Classic at University Gym. Indiana
will open play against Eastern Washington at 7:30 p.m.
