Tournament Data: This Friday, the 1998-1999 IU Women's Golf Team will start the fall season at the Lady Northern Golf Tournament at Lafayette. The tournament will be held over three days, with 18 holes to be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The course, Kampen Golf Course, is a par-72 and stretches over 5,995 yards.
The Teams: (14) Butler, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue (host), Wisconsin.
What to Watch for: Golf Week magazine ranks the Hoosiers sixth in the nation in the preseason. IU also has five of six returning starters from last year's Big Ten Championship team. Senior Erin Carney, ranked by Golf Week as a pre-season All-American, will lead the Hoosiers this year. She was the leading Hoosier last season with a scoring average of 74.7.
The Hoosiers: Coach Sam Carmichael will lead the Hoosiers into Lafayette this weekend. This season marks his 19th as the women's coach. His line-up this week will include Carney, senior Jennifer Seger, junior Samantha Montgomery, freshman Tiffany Fisher, sophomore Inga Snyder, and junior Theresa McDermott.
Seger, Montgomery, Snyder and McDermott all participated last season. Fisher is a true freshman who Carmichael thinks will make an impact. In her senior year in high school, she had a scoring average of 74.2.
