HOOSIER VOLLEYBALL LOSES BIG TEN OPENER
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team dropped its Big Ten Conference season opener Friday evening, losing to No. 6 Wisconsin 6-15, 12-15, 2-15 at University Gym.
With the loss, the Hoosiers fall to 7-3 overall, 0-1 in the Big Ten while the Badgers improve to 11 1 overall, 1-0 in Big Ten play.
Indiana struggled offensively against the Badgers as the Hoosiers registered just an .040 attack percentage. Outside hitter Ryann Connors, the team's leading kill getter, was held without kill as was starting middle blocker Cydryce Carter.
Senior Jen Magelssen led IU with 9 kills, 13 digs and two blocks while teammate Amanda Welter posted 8 kills. Middle blocker Melissa Rooney came off the bench to contribute seven kills and four blocks.
"It was a disappointing effort by the Hoosiers tonight," said Coach Katie Weismiller. "Wisconsin is a good team but I feel that we didn't play well as a team tonight. We struggled defending their attack on the left side and we didn't do a good job of serving aggressively from the service line."
The Hoosiers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 26 hosting Iowa at 7 p.m., at University Gym.
