HOOSIERS DEFEAT IOWA 3-0BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team picked up its first Big Ten Conference win of the season by defeating Iowa 15-10, 15-13, 15-12 Saturday evening at University Gym.
With the victory, the Hoosiers improve to 8-3 overall, 1-1 in the Big Ten while the Hawkeyes slip to 6-5 overall, 0-2 in Big Ten play.
"It was nice to get our first Big Ten win," said Coach Katie Weismiller. "With the strength of the conference it is as hard to win at home as it is on the road so I am pleased. I don't think that we played our best ball this weekend so I am happy to come out of it 1-1."
Three Hoosiers recorded double-figure kills and were led by sophomore Amanda Welter who nailed 12 kills with just two errors on 22 attempts for an impressive .455 attack percentage. She also added nine digs and one block. Juniors Ryann Connors and Laura Mettes each posted 10 kills apiece.
As a team, the Hoosiers registered 48 kills with 26 errors off of 126 attempts for a .175 attack percentage. Iowa tallied just 36 kills while hitting .089.
Indiana will be back in action next week, hosting Michigan State and Michigan, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3, respectively. Both matches are set for 7 p.m., in University Gym.
