Men's Tennis Ready To Open the Season

On Tap: The Hoosiers open their 1998-99 tournament season this weekend in Clemson, SC., competing in the Clemson Invitational.
Recapping Last Year: The Hoosiers are trying to bounce back after a disappointing season last year. Playing teams in the top 75 all season long, the Hoosiers ended the season with a 9-15 overall record. In conference play, they ended with a record of 4-9. They finished the Big Ten Championships in 8th place.
Head Coach Ken Hydinger... is entering his 15th season as the Head Coach at Indiana University. He has accumulated a 219-148-1 overall record, while earning a 98-75 Big Ten record. He has been coaching at the collegiate level for 18 years, coaching at Mississippi State and Southwest Missouri State, before coming to Indiana. During his 18 years of coaching he has collecting 285 victories, with 193 losses and one tie.
Scouting Report: Without a senior on the team this year, the Hoosiers will be looking for leadership from Juniors George McGill and Gabriel Montilla. Montilla finished last year with a 18-19 singles record, while playing at the number 2 position. McGill finished with a 13-10 singles record, and will look to contribute more this year. Sophomore Ian Arons led the Hoosiers in victories last year with 23. In doubles, the team does not have any teams returning from last year. They will look for stability from Montilla and fellow Junior Ricardo Jordan.
