HOOSIERS SHUT OUT GOLDEN BEARS 2-0
Four Hoosiers named to All-Tournament Team
Bloomington, Ind.-- The Indiana Hoosiers (2-0-0) shut out California Golden Bears (1-1-0) 2-0 in the 16th annual adidas Classic at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers attacked early as freshman Ryan Mack scored his first collegiate goal at the fourth minute of play assisted by Matt Fundenberger.
Coach Jerry Yeagley was impressed by Mack's performance. "Ryan (Mack) just keeps running, he's got intensity for a freshman you just don't see very often," Yeagley said. "He helped us out a lot offensively."
Defense was the key for the Hoosiers limiting the Bears to just five shots to their nine. In the second half, neither team could get much going as both teams only had two shot attempts.
Finally in the 84th minute of action, Dema Kovalenko sealed the victory for the Hoosiers scoring a 20 yard free kick.
The first game saw Butler outscoring College of Charleston 2-1. The Hoosier will be back in action next weekend traveling to the Southern Methodist Nike Classic in Dallas, Texas. IU plays Florida International on September 11 at 5:30 p.m., and SMU on September 12 at 7:30 p.m.
