INDIANA DEFEATS WISCONSIN
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's women's basketball team picked up its first Big Ten Conference victory Sunday evening, defeating Wisconsin 69-65 in Assembly Hall.
Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Hoosiers improve to 12-7 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers fall to 7-8 overall, 2-4 in the league.
Fueled by 19 Jill Chapman second-half points, the Hoosiers went up by as many as 10 points in the second stanza before Wisconsin made a charge to tie the game at 61-all with 3:52 left. From there, IU outscored the Badgers 8-4, to hang on for victory.
Freshman Jill Chapman finished with a career-high 23 points while Dani Thrush netted a season-best 17 points. Thrush also added 10 assists for her second-straight double-double. As a team, IU shot 39 percent from the field.
"I thought that for the second-straight game Dani played very well for us," said Jim Izard. "I also think that down the stretch, Jill got some key offensive boards and putbacks for us. As a team, we were aggressive and did what we needed to do to win this game."
