HOOSIERS DECK THE ACES, 6-0

Bloomington, Ind.-Indiana University's men's soccer team crushed another in-state rival in convincing fashion as the Hoosiers defeated the Evansville Aces 6-0 in front of 1,397 fans at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Indiana had previously beaten Butler 5-0 on Thursday (Oct. 7). Evansville is now 6-5.
With the victory, Indiana moves to 9-2 and has now won eight in a row with six shutouts in that skein. Also, Indiana's opponents have only netted three goals in the last eight matches. In its last three matches IU has scored 15 goals (4-2 over Penn State, 5-0 vs. Butler , and 6-0 vs. Evansville).
The Hoosiers' Aleksey Korol scored his fifth goal in three matches at 13:20 (assist from Matt Fundenberger) to give IU a 1-0 lead. Korol then returned the favor, as he assisted on Fundenberger's goal, a header, at 20:21 to conclude the first half scoring. Evansville's Brad Henderson received a red card at 24:21 as he led with the forearm into IU goalkeeper T.J. Hannig who had possession of the ball.
Despite playing a man down, UE hung tough until Ryan Mack scored at 62:59 (assist to Nick Garcia) and then 14 minutes later Yuri Lavrinenko made it 4-0 on a pass from Korol. Mack scored his third goal in the last two matches at 86:45 (assist to Phil Presser) and then Brandon Tauber fed Pat Noonan on a goal at 87:51 to make the score 6-0. IU's defense was just as stellar as its offense in limiting Evansville to only two shots and one corner kick.
Indiana head coach Jerry Yeagley liked what he saw from his team this afternoon. "It was just one of those days where we had a lot opportunities," commented Yeagley. "We've had some difficult matches with Evansville in the past and today it was good to get a convincing victory. I thought Evansville's goal keeper Ed Moore came up real big on some plays and I think we received some good play from our bench in Phil Presser and Marcus Chorvat. I see our team getting stronger and more confident and the guys are really coming along together."
Indiana returns to Big Ten action next weekend as it travels to Wisconsin on Friday (Oct. 15) for a 7:30 p.m. match and at Northwestern on Sunday (Oct. 17) starting at 2 p.m.
