INDIANA MEN'S TENNIS COMPETES IN LOUISVILLE INVITATIONAL
Austin, TX--Juniors Ian Arons and Milan Rakvica advanced to Tuesday's Qualification Rounds with wins today at the Prequalification at the Reebok/ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Austin, Texas. The Championships are the second leg of the ITA Collegiate Grand Slam.
Arons defeated Boise State's Ronald Rugimbana 6-0,6-3 in the third round, before knocking off Brad Erickson of Northwestern in the fourth round to qualify.
Rakvica qualified after his third round win over Pepperdine's Chase Exon 6-4,6-0.
Senior Gabriel Montilla defeated Tulsa's Juan Bertoldi 6-4,6-4, but was unable to qualify for Tuesday as he fell to Cody Hubbell of Texas A&M 6-1,6-4.
Sophomore Rahman Smiley also took part in the Prequalifications, but lost his third round match to Northwestern's Joost Hol 6-3,6-4.
Arons and Rakvica will have a day off tomorrow before they take their next step to make the main draw on Tuesday. Qualification rounds will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, before the Main Draw begins on Thursday.
In other Hoosier men's tennis action, Junior Joey Balsiger looked impressive
as he reached the finals of Flight B at the Louisville Invitational in Louisville,
Kentucky. Balsiger defeated Tennessee-Martin's Dewit Stegman 6-4,6-4 in
the semifinals to earn a trip to the finals. In lost a close three-set match
there to Toledo's Dipesh Rao 7-6(8),4-6,6-1.
