HOOSIERS AT WISCONSIN AND NORTHWESTERN

Game Data: Number one-ranked Indiana (9-2-0, 2-0-0) is on the road this weekend for a pair of Big Ten matches. The Hoosiers play at Wisconsin (4-9-1, 0-3-0) at McClimon Complex, Madison, Wis. on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and at Northwestern (1-9-0, 1-2-0) at Lakeside Field, Evanston, Ill. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.
Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagley...is in his 27th year at Indiana and is the winningest coach in collegiate soccer history. He has a career record of 466-82-37. He has led the Hoosiers to NCAA national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Hoosiers In the Polls: Indiana remains number one in the Soccer America Top 20 and number four in the NSCCA/adidas Top 25 for the second straight week.
Series vs. Wisconsin: Indiana leads the overall series vs. Wisconsin 21-3-3. Last year, IU won 3-0 in Bloomington and 4-0 in the Big Ten tournament. Indiana is 6-2-2 in Madison, Wis. Overall, the Hoosiers have outscored the Badgers 65 to 10. Wisconsin's last win over Indiana was 2-0 in 1995 in Madison.
Series vs. Northwestern: Indiana leads the overall series vs. Northwestern 14-0-0 with a 6-0-0 mark in Evanston, Ill. Overall, IU has outscored the Wildcats 80 to 5. Last year, Indiana defeated Northwestern 1-0.
A Look at the Badgers: After winning the NCAA title in 1995 with a 20-4-1 record, the Badgers have since gone 22-33-6 (11-5-5 in '96, 7-13-0 in '97, and 4-15-1 in '98). Currently 4-9-1, Wisconsin is 1-8 in its last nine matches. The Badgers did take number five ranked Penn State to overtime before losing 2-1. Leron Gabriel and Aaron Lauber lead the Badgers with four goals apiece and one assist for nine points. Valentine Anozie has nine point with three goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Moriba Atiba Baker has allowed 17 goals in 988 minutes for a 1.55 gaa. He has a 4-5-1 record.
A Look at the Wildcats: Northwestern is currently 1-9-0 and 1-2-0 in the Big Ten. Its only win was over Wisconsin 1-0. Jun Kim and Frank Lawson each have two goals, while Trevor Nelson leads with two assists. Goalkeeper Matt Keeler has allowed 20 goals in 855 minutes of action for a 2.110 goal against average. Northwestern has been outscored this season 21 to six.
Last Week Recap: On Thursday (Oct. 7), IU whipped Butler 5-0, as Aleksey Korol scored the Hoosiers' first three goals for his first career hat trick. Indiana held Butler to zero shots and zero corner kicks.
On Sunday (Oct. 10), IU defeated Evansville 6-0. Korol and Matt Fundenberger scored Indiana's first and second goals respectively. Ryan Mack had two second half goals and Yuri Lavrinenko and Pat Noonan each scored a goal. The IU defense limited Evansville to two shots and just one corner kick.
Tough Defense: Indiana has allowed only six goals in 11 games this season and the team GAA stands at a stellar 0.53.
Korol Rhymes with Goal: National Player of the Year Candidate Aleksey Korol has scored five goals in the last three matches. The senior forward scored one vs. Penn State, three vs. Butler, and one vs. Evansville. For the year, Korol leads IU with 10 goals and five assists for 25 points. He has scored at least one point in 10 of IU's 11 matches and the Hoosiers are 9-1 when he scores a point.
Korol is now seventh on the IU all-time list with 47 career goals and his 124 career points is tied with Pat McGauley for sixth.
Eight Straight Wins: After a 1-2 start, the Hoosiers have strung together an eight-game winning streak. In that stretch, IU has posted six shutouts and allowed only three goals. For the year, Indiana has held the opponents scoreless seven times.
Hoosier News and Notes: Junior Matt Fundenberger has scored six goals in the last eight matches after not netting a goal in the first three games. Fundenberger is second on the team with 16 points and he has two game-winning goals...Ryan Mack was goalless prior last week's matches, but he scored his first of the season vs. Butler and added two more vs. Evansville. He leads IU in assists with six... Goalkeepers Doug Warren and T.J. Hannig rank first and second in the Big Ten. Warren, a freshman, leads the conference with a 0.39 goals-against-average. Hannig ranks second in the Big Ten with a 0.68 GAA and first with 3.5 shutouts...The Hoosiers have scored 29 goals for the year, with 21 of them coming in the second half.
FANtastic Attendance: Through Indiana's first six games, 14,414 fans have passed through the Bill Armstrong Stadium turnstiles for an average of 2,402 fans per game.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players made the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
