HOOSIERS HEADED WEST
Tournament Data: The Indiana University women's golf team will travel to California this weekend to compete in the 36th annual Stanford/Pepsi Women's Intercollegiate. The tournament will consist of 54 holes, with 18 holes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Play will begin on each day at 8:00 a.m with a shotgun start on Sunday. Stanford University will host the event at the par 72, 6,154 yard Stanford Golf Course.
The Teams: (18) Indiana, Stanford, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, California, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, San Jose State, Pepperdine, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, SMU, Tulsa.
The Hoosiers will be competing with the best of the best this weekend. Of the eighteen teams participating in the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate, Arizona (2), Arizona State (5), Stanford (6), and New Mexico State (9) are ranked in the top-10 (Golfweek/Sagarin Golf Rankings). The remainder of the field includes New Mexico (12), Indiana (16), Pepperdine (18), San Jose State (22), and Tulsa (28) all of which are also ranked in the top-25.
The Hoosiers: Coach Sam Carmichael will close out the fall season at Stanford with Natalie Tucker, Theresa McDermott, Inga Snyder, Sami Montgomery, and Tiffany Fisher. IU is coming off of a fourth place finish at the Legends with a season best team score of 899 (304-300-295). Junior Natalie Tucker has proven to be the leader of the team so far this year by placing third in her last two tournaments. Tucker will look to continue her consistent play this weekend as she takes her 74.6 average to Stanford.
Coach Sam Carmichael feels that the Stanford/ Pepsi Invitational is a
chance for the squad to show what they are really made of. "We're
excited about making the trip this weekend. It's a good golf course and
the field is going to be very talented," said Coach Carmichael. "It
(Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate) will be a good test for us."
