HOOSIERS DEFEAT PURDUE 1-0 ON SENIOR NIGHT
Bloomington, Indiana -- It was up the the freshmen to make senior night for IU.
Hoosier freshman Lisa Tecklenburg made sure the first goal of her Hoosier career was golden as she found the net on a breakaway in the 95th minute to defeat Purdue 1-0 in the teams first ever meeting. Tecklenburg took the pass from fellow freshman Kristen Sprunger and fired it from 10 yards past Purdue goalkeeper Jocelyn Cavalier for the win.
IU senior Tracy Grose and Tecklenburg led the Hoosiers (3-7-6, 2-4-4 Big Ten) with three shots each. Grose went past the 200 shot mark for her career and needs just 13 more the break the school record.
The Boilermakers (7-9-0, 2-8-0 Big Ten) had a chance to capture the lead with two minutes remaining in regulation as Jessica Baumhoff took a shot from 12 yards, but IU senior Ashley Davis continued to be solid as she made the stop.
The two teams battled scoreless through regulation with Indiana taking 11 shots to Purdue's seven and holding a seven to one corner kick advantage. The Hoosiers continued show aggressive play with 18 fouls as the Boilermakers added 17 of their own. IU has lost just once this year when out fouling its opponent.
The five Indiana seniors: Tracy Grose, Abby Ryan, Ashley Davis, Megan Wallace, and Carrie Watts were honored before the game as they were announced in the starting lineup.
The Hoosiers travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, to play the Falcons Sunday at 3 p.m.
