INDIANA DROPS MICHIGAN
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team picked up another Big Ten victory Friday evening, defeating Michigan 15-8, 15-11, 15-10 at University Gym.
With the win the Hoosiers improve to 13-5 overall, 4-5 in the conference while the Wolverines fall to 11-7 overall and 3-6 in league play.
The match started out slow with each team playing side out ball. With the Wolverine lead at 6-4, the Hoosiers picked up the pace, putting together a 10-0 run to go up 14-7. UM never recovered, losing 15-8.
The Hoosiers led throughout game two, taking a 15-11 victory into the lockerroom at intermission.
Game three stayed tight until IU was able to break a 10-all tie and secure the 15-10 victory and match.
The Hoosiers offense proved impressive as IU recorded a .266 attack percentage to Michigan's .142. IU also out manned the Wolverines at the net with 10 blocks to UM's five.
Individually, senior middle blocker Cydryce Carter led IU with 16 kills and 13 digs. She also posted a .464 hitting efficiency with just three errors on 28 attempts. Teammates Ryann Connors and Hillary Toivonen added double-figure kills with 13 apiece.
"I felt like we played very well tonight," said Katie Weismiller. "We came out and we were competitive from the beginning. We played consistently at every position."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Saturday, hosting Michigan State
at University Gym at 7 p.m.
