INDIANA LOSES TO MSU 1-3
Indiana's volleyball team dropped a four-game match to Michigan State Saturday evening, losing 11-15, 15-9, 11-15, 6-15 at University Gym.
The Hoosiers, who close out the first half of Big Ten season with a 13-6 overall, 4-6 record in league play struggled with the bigger Spartan block all evening as MSU out-blocked IU 24 to six.
Senior Ryann Connors led the Hoosiers with 21 kills and 10 digs. She was followed with 15 kills from teammate Hillary Toivonen and 11 each from Amanda Welter and Jill Mudge. Setter Laurie Gardner tallied a career-high 16 digs to go along with her 59 assists and four block assists. As a team, the Hoosiers hit .147 compared to Michigan State's .270 attack percentage.
"Give Michigan State credit tonight," said Katie Weismiller. "They have come a long way since losing their setter to injury earlier in the season. I feel that Indiana really struggled fundamentally with our blocking and that was the difference in the match."
The Hoosiers will be back in action next week, traveling to Purdue and
Wisconsin, Oct. 29-30.
