HOOSIERS AT FIU/BELL SOUTH CLASSIC

Game Data: Number one-ranked Indiana (13-2-0, 5-0-0) travels to south Florida this weekend to compete in the FIU/Bell South Classic hosted by Florida International University. IU plays FIU (3-9-1) on Friday (Oct. 29) at 7:30 p.m. and James Madison (9-6-1) on Sunday (Oct. 31) at 12:30 p.m. Ohio State (10-5-0, 4-1-0) is the fourth team in the tournament.
Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagley...is in his 27th year at Indiana and is the winningest coach in collegiate soccer history. He has a career record of 470-82-37. Yeagley has led the Hoosiers to NCAA national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Hoosiers In the Polls: Indiana remains number one in the Soccer America Top 20 and is number two in the NSCCA/adidas Top 25.
Series vs. FIU: Indiana's record vs. Florida International is 3-3-1, however, IU has outscored FIU 16 to six. Last year tamed the Golden Panthers 6-0 in Dallas, at the SMU Classic. Aleksey Korol and Lazo Alavanja each scored two goals and Ryan Mack scored as well.
A Look at the Golden Panthers: FIU is 1-7 in its last eight matches and has lost its last four. It lost to Penn State 1-0 in overtime, a team which Indiana defeated 4-2. Freshman forward Russell Vreeland leads the squad with five goals. Goalkeeper Wally Crittenden has a 1.85 gaa (23 goals allowed) in 1,120 minutes of action.
Series vs. JMU: This is the first meeting between James Madison and Indiana.
A Look at the Dukes: James Madison is 2-5 in it last seven games. Junior forward Brandon Wright leads the Dukes with 10 goals (three assists) and in points with 23. Niki Budalich, a junior midfielder, has six goals and four assists for 16 points. Goalkeeper Billy DuRoss, a senior, has a 1.09 gaa (17 goals allowed) in 1,393 minutes.
Last Week Recap: Indiana clinched the number one seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 2-1 win over visiting Ohio State on Sunday. B.J. Snow scored his first career goal to give the Hoosiers a 1-0 lead on a pass from Ryan Mack. Aleksey Korol made it 2-0 on assists from Matt Fundenberger and Yuri Lavrinenko.
Last Wednesday, IU defeated Kentucky 4-2, as Fundenberger scored three goals.
Korol Rhymes with Goal: National Player of the Year Candidate Aleksey Korol leads IU and the Big Ten with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points. His eight assists is tied with Ryan Mack for team-high honors.
Korol is now sixth on the IU all-time list with 49 career-goals and his 131 career-points rank fifth.
Hat Trick by Fundenberger: Junior forward Matt Fundenberger scored his second career hat trick with three goals vs. Kentucky. He previously netted three goals as a freshman in 1997 vs. Rhode Island.
For the year, Fundenberger is second on team with 10 goals (five assists) for 25 points, which ranks third in the Big Ten. His 25 career goals is the 19th-best mark in IU history.
Big Ten Dominance: With a perfect 5-0 mark in Big Ten play this season, it marks the third straight year (fourth overall in nine seasons) that the Hoosiers have completed conference play with an unblemished record.
IU is now 21-1-1 in their last 23 Big Ten Conference games. Indiana last lost to a conference opponent during the Big Ten season in 1995, when it dropped a 0-2 decision at Wisconsin. That 1995 Badger squad went on to capture the NCAA Championship. The only tie came against Penn State in 1996 at 1-1. Overall, Indiana is a dominating 39-4-2 in Big Ten games (beginning in 1991).
Indiana vs. Ranked Teams in 1999: Indiana sports a 3-1-0 mark vs. nationally ranked teams. IU defeated #2 Maryland 1-0, lost to #18 Saint Louis 1-0 in overtime, defeated #1 ranked Penn State 4-2, and defeated #19 Ohio State 2-1. All four of those games have been in Bloomington.
12 Straight Wins: After a 1-2 start, the Hoosiers have strung a 12-game winning streak. In that stretch, IU has posted eight shutouts and allowed only six goals.
Hoosier News and Notes: Ryan Mack will be profiled in an upcoming issue of Soccer America. Mack is tied with Korol for the team lead in assists with eight and he his 10th in the Big Ten with 14 points. IU with eight...Senior Yuri Lavrinenko is ninth in the league with 15 points. Goalkeepers T.J. Hannig and Doug Warren rank first and second in the Big Ten. Hannig ranks first in the Big Ten with a 0.57 gaa and first with, while Warren, a freshman, follows with an 0.62 gaa...The Hoosiers have scored 36 goals for the year, with 21 of them coming in the second half.
FANtastic Attendance: During Indiana's first eight-game home schedule this year, 17,325 fans passed through the Bill Armstrong Stadium turnstiles for an average of 2,166fans per game.
Hoosiers Named All-American: Soccer America released preseason All-American teams and three Indiana players made the first team. Nick Garcia, Aleksey Korol and Yuri Lavrinenko made the 11-player list.
Next Up: The Hoosiers have the number one seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which takes place at East Lansing, Mich., Nov. 12-14.
