JAMES MADISON STOPS INDIANA'S 13-MATCH WINNING STREAK

Two First Half Goals Upset #1 Hoosiers
Miami, Fla. -James Madison University scored two first half goals, four minutes apart, to defeat number one-ranked Indiana, 2-0, at the 14th Annual FIU/Bell South Classic, in the first meeting between the two schools.
The Dukes' Randy Steeprow scored at 27:42 off of a rebound from IU goalkeeper T.J. Hannig. Hannig had saved a shot by Brandon Wright which then enabled Steeprow to score. Four minutes later, JMU again got behind the Hoosier defense as Ivar Sigurjonsson dribbled and avoided the IU defense to score 10 yards center at 31:42.
Obviously, IU head coach Jerry Yeagley was not pleased with his defensive third, a group that had been one of Indiana's strengths during the 1999 campaign. "It was perhaps our worst performance by our defensive third this year," comments Yeagley. "Our defense looked like Swiss cheese with a lot of holes. James Madison got behind our defense too many times. It wasn't the same Indiana team that had put together 13
straight wins. We offer no excuses. This just wasn't our day. Last year we lost our last regular season game (to U.C.L.A.) and went on and had a successful post-season."
After losing last year at U.C.L.A., the Hoosiers regrouped and won the Big Ten Tournament and captured its fourth NCAA Championship.
James Madison outshot the Hoosiers 13 to 10, as both teams' goalkeepers had some big-time saves. IU's Hannig registered five saves, while the Dukes' Billy DuRoss had seven saves.
With the loss, IU is now 14-3-0. It was the first time since the 1-0 overtime loss to Saint Louis that Indiana has been shut out. James Madison improves its record to 10-7-1.
Indiana is not in action until the Big Ten Tournament, at East Lansing, Mich., on Nov. 12-14.
