HOOSIERS HOST BUTLER AND EVANSVILLE

Game Data: Number one-ranked Indiana (7-2-0, 2-0-0) hosts two in-state rivals this week at Bill Armstrong Stadium. First on the docket is Butler (3-8) on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and second is Evansville (6-4) on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m.
Indiana Head Coach Jerry Yeagley...is in his 27th year at Indiana and is the winningest coach in collegiate soccer history. He has a career record of 464-82-37. He has led the Hoosiers to NCAA national titles in 1982, 1983, 1988, and 1998, 12 Final Four appearances and seven Big Ten titles.
Hoosiers In the Polls: After defeating Penn State last Friday, Indiana moves to first in Soccer America's Top 20 poll and fourth on the NCSAA poll. Indiana remains the top team in the Great Lakes Region.
Series vs. Butler: Indiana leads the overall series vs. the Butler Bulldogs 9-1. Last year, IU won 3-0 in Indianapolis (10-8-98) and 2-1 in overtime in Bloomington in the NCAA tournament. The Hoosiers are 4-1 at home vs. Butler and have outscored the Bulldogs 30-6 all-time.
Series vs. Evansville: Indiana leads the overall series vs. the Evansville Aces 17-4-3. Last year at Evansville, IU won 2-1 in overtime. The Hoosiers have outscored the Aces 50-23 all-time and are 10-0-1 in Bloomington.
A Look at the Bulldogs: Butler enters the Indiana match with a 3-8 mark. Stephen Armstrong leads the attack with four goals and four assists for 12 pioints. Giancarlo Barraza is second on the squad with 10 points (three goals and four assists). The Bulldogs have been outscored 27-17.
A Look at the Aces: Evansville enters the Indiana match with a 6-4 mark. The Aces have won five of their last seven. Marshall Ray and Terence Gargantini lead the team with six goals apiece. Gargantini has three assists for a total of 15 points, while Ray has two assists for 14 points. Dustin Ottesen has a team-high eight assists. Keeper Ed Moore has a 1.44 gaa in 687 minutes of action.
Last Week Recap: The Hoosiers defeated number one-ranked Penn State 4-2 in Bloomington in front of 3,507 fans. Penn State's Ricard Villar scored at 16:01 and IU's Pat Noonan tied it at 25:50. Matt Fundenberger gave the Hoosiers' a 2-1 half-time lead at 33:48. PSU's Villar scored again (71:30) to tie the match 2-2. Aleksey Korol gave Indiana the lead at 80:00 and Yuri Lavrinenko made it 4-2 at 83:37.
Indiana registered 14 shots to the Nittany Lions' five. IU also held the edge in corner kicks 5-4.
Tough Defense: Indiana has allowed only six goals in nine games this season and the team GAA stands at a stellar 0.65. In fact, the Hoosiers lead the Big Ten in goals-against-average and rank seventh in the country with a 0.65.
Hoosier News and Notes: Junior Matt Fundenberger has scored five goals in the last six matches and is third in the Big Ten with five goals. The only match he did not score a goal in the last six contests was at Louisville...He also ranks fourth with 11 points in the Big Ten. Aleksey Korol is now ninth on Indiana's all-time goals' list with 43. Korol needs just one more to tie for eighth place with Brian Maisonneuve (44). His 114 career points are now tied for eighth with Charlie Fajkus (1975-78) on the all-time scoring list. Korol ranks second in the Big Ten in goals with six and second in points (15)...Ryan Mack is first in the league with six assists...Goalkeepers Doug Warren and T.J. Hannig rank first and second in the Big Ten. Warren leads the conference with a 0.47 goals-against-average. Hannig ranks second in the Big Ten with a 0.80 GAA and first with three shutouts... The Hoosiers have out scored their opponents 7-0 in the first half this seasonIndiana leads in team goals-against-average with a mark of 0.65.
Attendance Figures: The Hoosiers are a 3-1 at Bill Armstrong Stadium and part of that is due to fantastic fan support. This year so far, a total of 11,665 fans have seen the Hoosiers. That is an average of 2,916 fans per match.
