HOOSIERS TAKE NO. 8 RANKING TO LEGENDS
Tournament Data: The Indiana University women's golf team will take their #8 ranking (Golfweek) to Franklin, Ind. this Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Legends Shoot-Out. The tournament will be played at the par 72, 5,925 yard Legends of Indiana golf course with start times of 8:00 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday. 54 holes will make up the tournament, as 36 are played on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
The Teams: (12) Indiana, Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas, Campbell.
This week the field of twelve competing at the Legends is particularly strong. Six of the twelve teams participating are ranked in the top-25. Purdue holds the top ranking of sixth while Indiana is ranked eighth and Oklahoma St. is ranked 11th. Northwestern holds the ranking of 15th and Wisconsin and Missouri are ranked 23rd and 24th respectively.
The Hoosiers: IU is coming off of an impressive victory at the Fossum Invitational. The team showed their talents at the Fossum as five of the six that traveled finished in the top 25. Junior Natalie Tucker had the top finish from the squad taking second place honors with a score of 223 (74-77-72). Senior Sami Montgomery and sophomore Tiffany Fisher shared a tie for third place shooting 72-76-77 (225) and 78-73-74 (225) respectively. Senior Theresa McDermott shot a solid 232 (76-78-78) for a 12th place tie and sophomore Inga Snyder added a score of 235 (76-83-76) good enough for a share of 22nd place.
Coach Sam Carmichael was very pleased with the team's victory and the fact that it was a total team effort. "We had a really good tournament (The Fossum), it was great to get a victory this early in the year," said Carmichael. "The kids played really well and everybody contributed on the team."
Carmichael will take Natalie Tucker, Tiffany Fisher, Sami Montgomery, Theresa McDermott, Inga Snyder, and Cara Stuckey to the Legends Monday and Tuesday, as the team looks to pick up their second victory of the season.
