INDIANA LOSES TO NO. 18 WISCONSIN 3-0
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team lost a three-game match to No. 18 Wisconsin Friday evening 15-8, 15-6, 15-11 at University Gym.
With the loss, the Hoosiers' fell short in their bid to extend their home court winning streak to 10 matches. Prior to tonight's match, Indiana had put together a school record tying string of nine-consecutive wins at University Gym dating back to Oct. 24, 1998.
Wisconsin (11-4 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) led throughout games one and two but it was game three that saw the Hoosiers (10-4 overall, 1-4 Big Ten) go up with a 9-4 advantage after the intermission. After a Badger timeout, Wisconsin rolled off four-straight points to pull within one, trailing IU 9-8. After an IU timeout, Wisconsin continued its offensive show, taking the game and match 15-11.
Amanda Welter led IU with 13 kills and seven digs. She was followed with 10 kills from Cydryce Carter. As a team, Indiana was out dug 62-45 and posted a .148 attack percentage to the Badgers .282.
"Wisconsin definitely is a very strong team and we knew that," said Coach Katie Weismiller. "But coming into the match we very much thought that we had a chance. The Hoosiers struggled with fundamentals and miss communication tonight. Offensively, we are playing tentatively right now. We cannot continue to play that way. Tentative doesn't win in the Big Ten."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Saturday, October 9 as they host
the Purdue for the Monon Spike at 7 p.m., in University Gymnasium.
