Juniors Simone and Fonners off to National Trials
Los Angeles, California-- Juniors Molly Fonner and Deb Simone have been nominated to represent Indiana University in Water Polo at Los Angeles, California. They will be competing for a spot on the National B Team.
The tryouts will be spread out over Saturday and Sunday with the 30 players being divided into two teams, red and blue. The other teams that will be involve include San Diego State, Southern California, California Santa Barbara, UCLA and Stanford. This will create a series of games that will enable the national coaches plenty of opportunity to evaluate each player.
These two Juniors have what it takes to play at the national level by the numbers they posted last season. Diver Deb Simone, a preseason All-American candidate last season, led IU in steals, assists and shots. She finished the season with 51 goals while also being named the Big Ten MVP and an All-Midwest Regional selection. Two-meter defender Molly Fonner, although not having the background as Simone, was named to the All-Big Ten first team. She also finished the season with 92 steals which placed her third on the team.
