INDIANA SWEEPS NORTHWESTERN
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team swept Northwestern 15-8, 15-6, 15-7 Friday evening at University Gym.
With the win, the Hoosiers improve to 16-9 overall, 7-9 in Big Ten play while the Wildcats fall to 3-22 overall and 1-14 in the league.
Indiana set the tempo of the match early, attacking the net aggressively. Freshman outside hitter Hillary Toivonen led IU with 17 kills and a .300 attack percentage. Teammate Jill Mudge added 10 kills while setter Laura Gardner tallied six kills, 42 assists and a career-high 16 digs.
As a team, Indiana finished with a .212 hitting efficiency, collecting 55 kills to Northwestern's 33.
"Coming off of the five-game loss to Illinois on Wednesday, I was a little concerned with how we would play tonight and if we would have weak legs," said Katie Weismiller. "But, I think we came out aggressive and exposed their weaknesses early on."
The Hoosiers take to the road next week, traveling to Michigan State
and Michigan, Nov. 19-20.
