BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team kept their possible NCAA Tournament berth alive by defeating Iowa 15-6, 15-12, 15-4 Friday evening at University Gym.
The Hoosiers, who improve to 18-10 overall, 9-10 in the Big Ten now face a must win situation in tomorrow's match against No. 20 Minnesota it they hope to have any chance at making a second-straight NCAA appearance.
The Hoosiers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in game one and never looked back, playing three poised and focused games.
Outside hitters Hillary Toivonen and Amanda Welter led the Hoosiers at the net with 11 kills apiece. Welter also recorded a team-best .474 attack percentage for the evening. Setter Laurie Gardner added five kills, 11 digs and 40 assists for the Hoosiers.
"It was nice to see the team respond after giving them the day off yesterday for Thanksgiving," said Katie Weismiller. "I was pleased with how we stepped it up and stuck with our game plan."
The Hoosiers host their final regular season match tomorrow (Saturday),
taking on No. 20 Minnesota at 7 p.m., in University Gym.
