INDIANA LOSES TO TOP-RANKED PEN STATE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's volleyball team lost to top-ranked Penn State 15-6, 15-2, 15-2 Friday evening at University Gym.
With the loss the Hoosiers drop to 14-8 overall, 5-8 in the Big Ten while the Nittany Lions improve to 23-1 overall, 13-0 in league play.
Poor passing by the Hoosiers and strong blocking by Penn State dictated the match as PSU tallied 15 blocks to IU's three. Indiana's offense also struggled with an .019 attack percentage to the Nittany Lions .330 hitting efficiency.
Individually, Amanda Welter led IU with eight kills. Ryann Connors and Hillary Toivonen added five kills apiece.
"Penn State is a really good team," said Katie Weismiller. "We felt confident going into the match because we usually play Penn State pretty tough but tonight it wasn't there. We didn't pass very well and offensively, they shut us down. Give Penn State credit. They are a good team."
The Hoosiers will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 6, hosting Ohio State at 7 p.m., in University Gym.
