Senior day turns sour for Indiana
Bloomington, Ind.--Freshman guard Allison Curtin came off the bench for a career high 23 points as the Illinois Fighting Illini (15-9, 9-5 Big Ten) routed the Indiana Women's Basketball team, 104-69, on Senior Day.
Illini forward Tajua Catchings poured in 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds and center Alicia Sheeler went for 20 points and 14 rebounds to send Indiana to its seventh straight loss.
Senior forward Cindy Kerns led the Hoosiers (13-15, 2-12 Big Ten) with 22 points and seven rebounds before fouling out with six minutes to play. Junior guard Kay Morgan added 17 points and freshman center Jill Chapman chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Indiana led early in the game but quickly fell behind by 13 on Lisa Guarneri's three pointer from the left wing. The Hoosiers battled back to cut it to six, 47-41, as Kerns scored Indiana's final nine points of the first half.
That was as close as Indiana would get the rest of the game. Melissa Parker drained a three pointer with 20 seconds remaining in the first half to start an 18-2 run capped by Catchings' runner in the lane with under 15 to play to put the Illini up 22.
Today was the final home game for seniors Kerns, Kristi Green, Dani Thrush, Summar Maines, LaKale Malone and Kristin Miller.
The Hoosiers are back in action Friday night against the Northwestern
Wildcats in Evanston. Game time is 7 p.m. EST.
