HOOSIERS DRILL INDIANA WESLEYAN 26-7 IN SEASON OPENER
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana Hoosiers (1-0) opened their season with plenty of offense as they defeated the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats 26-7.
Doug DeVore hit three home runs and a double tallying 6 RBI to lead the Hoosiers. DeVore was backed by Blake St. Clair and Jason Williams who also had four hits a piece.
Despite the early 2-1 Indiana Wesleyan lead, Indiana rattled six runs in the fourth, 10 runs in the sixth, and six runs in the eighth to charge past the Wildcats. In total, IU recorded 26 runs on 25 hits with one error. Indiana Wesleyan scored seven runs on 11 hits with three errors.
Hurler Chad Smith picked up the first victory of the year going two full innings striking out four of seven batters without giving up a hit.
Indiana hosts IU Southeast next Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Sembower Field. Action gets underway at 3 p.m.
