HOOSIERS LOSE AT NORTHWESTERNThrush scores 1,000th career-point
EVANSTON, Ill. - Indiana's women's basketball team dropped its eighth-straight game Friday evening, losing 79-68 to Northwestern in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
For 25 minutes it looked as if the Hoosiers (13-16, 2-13) had a chance to pick up its first win in over a month. But with the game tied 46-all, the Wildcats (11-14, 5-10) nailed two 3-pointers to go up 54-48 and kept that lead the rest of the way. The Hoosiers managed to get within four points 58-54 after a Summar Maines jumper with 10:59 left but that was as close as they would come.
In the first half, the lead seesawed back and forth with 15 lead changes and six ties before Northwestern took the 41-39 halftime advantage.
One bright spot in the game was the play of Dani Thrush. Despite fouling out in the final minute, Thrush became the 14th player in Hoosier history to score 1,000 points. Thrush finished the game with 13 points, threerebounds, five assists and three steals.
Also scoring in double-figures for the Hoosiers was Cindy Kerns who netted 15 points and Heather Cassady who added 10 points off of the bench.
As a team, IU shot 43 percent from the field but was outrebounded 43-29.
"I thought that we executed well enough to win this game,"
said Jim Izard. "I feel that the effort was there but once again, not
getting to the free throw line hurt us. We did a good job of guarding Megan
Chawansky but did not contain their other players. We also got hurt on the
boards in the second half."
