20TH RANKED HOOSIERS HEAD TO ANN ARBOR FOR MICHIGAN INVITATIONAL
THIS WEEK: The 20th ranked Hoosiers head to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Michigan Invitational this Saturday and Sunday.

LAST WEEK:Indiana went 4-5 on its Spring Break trip to California, including a 5th place finish at the Davis Shootout. In the tournament, the Hoosiers earned wins over Santa Clara (10-5), Redlands (8-3) and Cal State-Bakersfield (8-7 OT) while losing 5-3 in overtime to #16 Loyola Marymount. Against CS-Bakersfield, Indiana trailed 7-5 going into the fourth but rallied to tie the game and win it in overtime. Kristin Carpenter scored three times for Indiana while Deb Simone and Molly Fonner each scored twice. In other games, Indiana beat CS-Bakersfield, 7-5, but dropped matches to #6 UCDavis (10-3), #3 California (14-1), #10 San Jose State (9-5) and #12 Pacific (7-6).
LOOKING AHEAD: Indiana will host the Hoosier Invitational next Friday and Saturday in the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center. Friday's action will pit Indiana vs Michigan State at 7:30 pm and Michigan vs Wisconsin at 8:45 pm. Saturday's first session will pit Michigan against in-state rival Michigan State at 10:30 am while Indiana and Wisconsin will take the pool at 11:45 am. The evening session gets underway at 5:00 pm with Michigan State taking on Wisconsin while arch-rivals Indiana and Michigan face off at 6:15 pm.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: Indiana is currently ranked #20 in the nation in the latest United States Water Polo Top 20 poll Although the Hoosiers are 8-11, all 11 losses have come to teams ranked in the Top 20. Indiana has lost to #3 California (twice), #6 San Diego State, #7 UC Santa Barbara, #11 Long Beach State, #12 UC San Diego, #19 Michigan, #8 UC Davis, #13 Loyola Marymount, #10 San Jose State and #14 Pacific. IU owns wins over two teams previously ranked in the Top 20, Michigan State and Harvard. Indiana began the year ranked 11th.
WELCOME ABOARD: Coach King has added freshman driver Erin Rice to the roster. Rice (6-0; Apatos, Calif) spent the winter with the women's swimming team. She finished 11th in the 1,650 freestyle and helped the 800-free relay team to a ninth place finish at the Big Ten Tournament in Minneapolis. During her high school career, Rice earned first team all-county honors and team MVP honors. Rice made her IU water polo debut on March 7th against Harvard. She finished with seven shots on goal, an assist and a steal.
STEALING SIMONE: Sophomore driver Deb Simone's nine steals in the first Harvard match tied Kara Fellerhoff's single-match record. Fellerhoff swiped nine against Notre Dame last year at the Miami Invitational. Simone, an Honorable Mention All-American selection last year, leads Indiana in goals with 24. The River Forest, Illinois native has six multiple goal games this season. Simone upped her career goals to 74, after scoring 50 a year ago.
SHE'S ON FIRE!: Sophomore driver Kirstin Carpenter scored 14 goals in nine games last week, upping her total to 23 on the season. The sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich. recorded a season high four goals against Santa Clara and pumped in three against Cal State-Bakersfield and Pacific. She is second in school history with 58 goals and is second on the team this year, behind Deb Simone (24).
BREAKING OUT: After a slow start, freshman driver Mary Lesniak exploded for eight goals during last week's swing through California. The Oak Park, Illinois. native has started 13 consecutive matches in place of sophomore hole-set Kelly McKay.
INJURY UPDATE: Sophomore hole-set Kelly McKay has been recovering from a broken finger and has been coming off the bench lately. McKay scored two goals last week in California. Freshman goalie Louanne Hovater saw her first action of the year against California and CS-Bakersfield. She recorded eight saves in the two matches and should see action this weekend at Michigan.
