HOOSIERS SWEEP TAYLOR
Indiana moves to 7-0 on the year
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana Baseball team upped its record to 7-0 with an 18-7, 13-3 doubleheader sweep of Taylor University this afternoon at Sembower Field.
In the first game, junior Doug DeVore continued his hot hitting with a 2-4, four RBI effort, including his sixth home run of the year. Third baseman Frank O'Connell went 3 for 4, scored four times and knocked in two runs.
Sophomore Nick Otte tossed three scoreless innings to earn his second win of the season. He stuck out six of the nine Trojan batters he faced.
Indiana jumped on the Trojans right off the bat as lead off hitter Benji Clause doubled, Dan Haegele walked and both were driven in on DeVore's double.
The Hoosiers broke it wide open with a five run fifth inning. Clause was hit by a pitch and Haegele reached on an error. DeVore then slammed a three run shot to right center as Indiana took a 9-2 lead.
The second game was much like the first as Indiana jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Haegele and Blake St. Clair walked to open the first and were brought home on Mark Minor's triple to right field. The Hoosiers added six insurance runs in the fourth, two of those runs coming on catcher Brandt Childs' single.
Freshman left hander Brad Edwards scattered three hits and fanned eight in earning his first win of the season.
This weekend, the Hoosiers travel to Lexington, Kentucky for games with
Illinois and Kentucky. The Illinois game will be Saturday at 3:30 while
the Kentucky game will get underway Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
