HOOSIERS FALL TO MICHIGANIndiana takes second in region and advances to Nationals
Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Indiana Women's Water Polo team lost to Michigan 7-6 in overtime in the Midwest Regional Final at Canhum Natatorium. Indiana (21-14) finishes second in the region and advances to the Women's Collegiate Water Polo Championships, May 7-9, in Davis, California.
Indiana fell behind 4-2 entering the fourth but sent the match to overtime with three fourth period goals. Michigan struck first in the first extra session with two goals to take a 7-5 lead. The Hoosiers added one in the second overtime period but could not get the match-tying goal.
Kristin Carpenter led Indiana with two goals while Deb Simone added a goal, three steals and two assists. Carpenter, an Ann Arbor native, finished the weekend with 10 goals, upping her team-leading total to 49.
The Hoosiers have the next two weeks off in preparation for the National Championships.
