GALL AND WILLIAMS SIGN AS NFL FREE AGENTS
Bloomington, Ind. -- It was announced today that senior fullback Chris Gall and senior defensive end Aaron Williams have signed free-agent contracts with the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals, respectively. Gall will participate in the Colts' minicamp in Indianapolis this weekend while the Cardinals' minicamp will be in Phoenix the following weekend.
"I'm just thrilled to sign with the Colts," said Gall. "I think it's a great opportunity for me. I had heard from Green Bay during the draft and they said that they were thinking about drafting me but they decided to look at some other guys. I just want to go to Indianapolis and compete for a job."
Said Williams, "I talked to coach (Joe) Greene and when I was talking to him I thought, this is Mean Joe Greene I'm talking to. He's one of the best of all-time. Arizona has a lot of really good linemen to watch and learn from. Coach Cameron has implemented a very businesslike approach to our program which should help my transition."
Gall, a River Forest, Ill., product was recognized as IU's Most Valuable Player following both the 1997 and 1998 seasons. He started 20 career games and finished his career with 84 receptions and 3 touchdowns. In 1998, Gall rushed for 343 yards and 7 touchdowns and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors. He also caught 30 passes for 243 yards and 1 score.
Williams, a native of Brampton, Ontario, played in 11 games (10 starts) in 1998 and tallied 27 tackles, including 8 for loss and 2 sacks. He started 21 career games.
