HOOSIERS SECOND AT INDIANA BIG FOUR
Terre Haute, Indiana -- The Hoosiers' throwing trio and sprinters helped boost the womens' track team to a second place finish at the Indiana Big Four at Indiana State Saturday.
IU sophomore Jennifer Brown combined with freshmen Krista Keir and Heather Colyer scored a large number of points for the Hoosiers. In the shot put, it was Colyer winning the meet at 13.98m (45-120 1/2), Keir placing second (13.87m; 45-6 1/4), and Brown third (13.53m; 44-4 3/4). In the discus, Keir won with an NCAA provisional mark of 52.46m (172-1), Colyer followed in third (47.30m; 155-2), and Brown finished fourth at 45.14m (148-1).
IU freshman Tia Trent led the sprinters with a win in the 400m (55.0) and a second place finish in the 200m (25.1). Freshman Jenna Lock added to the total by winning the 800m in 2:15.6. Sophomore Lorraine Dunlop took second in the 100m (12.0) and third in the 200m (25.1), and junior Tarviant Campbell placed second behind Lock in the 400m with a time of 57.2.
Both Hoosier relay teams took first place. The 4x100m team, made up of Dunlop, Campbell, Trent, and junior LaToya Turner won in a time of 46.3. The 4x400m team won in 3:50.9.
The other Hoosier winners included junior Kim Craig, with a win in the 1500m (4:43.3); Turner in the 100m hurdles (14.5); and sophomore Maria Fleischmann in the triple jump (11.58m; 38-0).
